Best sharpening setup for woodworking tool and woodturning tool (HSS material) with T8

Hi,

I am T8 owner and i would like to have a most versatile and efficient setup to sharpening my woodworking and woodturning tools and all the knives at home. I alread have a standard SG250 stone and SB250 (due to the HSS material) .
How can i get the best sharp tools? Do i need a Diamond stone? Which one?

thanks for the answer!
best regards

  • Hi Jozsef,

You already have a good setup with the SG-250 and the SB-250 For your woodturning tools it could be a good idea to get a Diamond Wheel Fine DF-250. This is a wheel that many woodturners have and use very much when they just need to touch up the edge.

If you need to remove material or change shape of your tool the Diamond Wheel Coarse DC-250 could be an option for you.

  • Thanks for the answer, in case i refine the SG250 to 1000grit, can i get the same result than with df 250 (600grit?) or use a leather honig wheel?

  • It is not entirely possible to compare grinding on diamond wheels and grinding stones. The result also depends on the grinding pressure and how long time you spent. Regardless of which method you use, you should use the leather honing wheel with honing compound. You can spend a lot of time on this to achieve a better result.
