  The lifetime of the knife protecting pads, KPP2, is difficult to determine as it depends on handling. If the knife is placed in the jig at the wrong angle, it can be damaged immediately. However, if handled carefully, placed correctly, and used for sharpening with caution, the pads can last for hundreds of knives.
  
  Cleaning the pads can be done in several ways. One method is to remove the jig from the machine, take off the clip, and rub the pads against each other to loosen the dirt. Then, use a vacuum cleaner to remove the debris. Alternatively, you can use a brush (e.g., an old toothbrush) to loosen the dirt.
