Yellow Mold Growing

My SG-250 grindstone has yellow mold growing on it. It's a new tormek.

I cleaned up the mold and emptied the through and let the stone dry. The mold came back again.

The grinder is located in an environment that is permanently between 20 and 21 degrees. Humidity is less than 50%.

  • Hi Ken.
I am sorry but it is something in your environment that causes this mold growth.
Probably something transferring from the water into the stone. It is difficult to remove the mold sporers just cleaning the outside of the stone. You need something to kill the spores inside the stone.
Then you have to adress your environment, you may need to contact a professional to help you with that.
The stone is moist for a pretty long time after use, if you have spores in your environment the mold will come back eventually. To lessen the problem please try to minimize the biological material in the water you use. Biological material can come from the wood handle on your knifes and other tools. Dirt or food residue that is stuck on your tools. Keep the water as clean as possible.
    Good luck.
