Sharpening jig/angle "bottom-of-bowl" gouge

Which jig (or free-hand) and which jig settings and angels would you suggest for a "bottom-of-bowl" gouge with a nose angle of about 80*. Thanks

  • Hi Michael, thank you for your question. I would use the SVD-186 R and jig setting 0 or 1 and then use the marker method to repeat your existing angle. That should the easiest and fastest way to sharpen your gouge.

  • Thanks. The (new) gouge is sharpened at 45* so I need to re-grind. What hole setting and protrusion would you recommend?

  • Hi Michael,

To change the angle from 45 to 80 degrees will take some time since you need to remove a lot of material. To speed up the process the BGM-100 and a dry grinder could be used.
80 degrees is a very steep angle not commonly used. With the TTS-100 setting you can only come up to 60 degrees (in that case JS:6 P:75 Hole: A). If you want 80 degree you will have to set in yourself using the Angle Master WM-200 and measure the angle yourself.
