Strange sound on a new Tormek T-1

After I have spent one day with my new Tormek T-1, today I noticed a strange knocking sound, when starting the machine and which continued until I turned it off. Somehow disturbing. Any guess what could be the reason ?

  • Hello Frank!
Congratulations on your new Tormek T-1 👏 Thank you for attaching the video.

The knocking sound you hear when the machine is running is an small imprint from the motor shaft on the rubber friction wheel. This is nothing to worry about. It will automatically go away when you use the machine and when the rubber gets warmed up again, after about 5-10 minutes of use.

This can occur when the Tormek T-1 have not been used in a while. This phenomenon will settle over time, the more the machine has been used. It can also happen when the Tormek T-1 has been used for an intensive sharpening session and the rubber turns warm and flexible (which is desirable to get as good grip as possible), and then cools down again.

I hope this helps and that you can continue enjoying your sharp knives.
    Stay sharp!
    Victor
