MSK 250 replacement

I have replaced the shaft on Tormek 2000 and where the gringing wheel fits, the thread seems to be a bit short so that there is only part of the thread on the eazy lock used. I have worked out that compared to the shaft and bushes changed I have lost 1mm each on the thickness of the replaced bushes (5 mm flange compared with 4) and the grinding wheel back nut lost 2 mm (6mm compared with 4). So effectively lost total of 4 mm on the resulting LH thread of the shaft. If the bushes and back washer were the same as original the the end of the shaft would be flush with the eazy lock nut. Please advise Thank you

  • Hi David.

Yes, the shaft is a bit short for the older stones without the recessed center.

From the pictures, it looks like you have a stone without the recessed center that is approximately 20 to 25 years old. I think we stopped using that stone design around 2006, so they are quite unusual today.

However, there is no problem using the shorter shaft with these older stones. There are enough threads to hold the stone securely on the shaft.

When the stone eventually wears out and you purchase a new one, it will have the recessed center, and the nut will engage the full thread length of the shaft.

    Have a nice day.
