Why does my brand new DF-250 wheel sharpen so slow?

I ground the edge of a iron/carbon blade on the top and it took about 5 minutes. However, i ground a bevel on my 3 cherries butt chisel with the multibase on the side of the wheel and it took nearly an hour to break the 30 degree(1/2way up on the bevel) back down to a 25. This worries me about my Japanese chisels.  Am I doing something wrong

Also, the butt chisel is only 2" long as is my Japanese chisels and the it is very difficult to get the length needed to meet the side of the wheel using the mb-102 and SE-77. Is there a better jig for short items; it seems like the water trough gets in the way.?

  • Hej Ryan

to change an angel takes it time, it has to be removed quite a bit of material. Keep in mind it's a sharpening machine not a grinding machine ;-)
We have a DC-250 to get more material grinded off the tools.
Regarding the short chisels you have to play with the position of the Universalsupport angel and the distance of the Multibase MB-102.
The heel of the bevel need only a short protrusion from the SE-77, not more than 5 mm.
I hope this helps you to get a razor sharp chisel.
