SJ 250 wobble
Hello,
I've been looking into buying the SJ-250. I have been reading reviews and have seen a lot of people commenting that the SJ-250 comes untrue from the factory and has a significant wobble. I'm curious as to why this seems to be a common problem.
I was surprised to read this, because everything I have bought from Tormek seems to be super high quality and in pristine condition. Is this something I need to be concerned about? Or is there a reason this is a common issue with the SJ-250?
Kind regards.

The most common reason ist that the stone is not propperly mounted. The problem occures for the reader as that is "common" due you read/see only those who has issues and not those who have no problems.
The SJ-250 Japanese Waterstone has a slightly wider tolerance as our other stones and wheels, which is not an issue when mounted propperly. When mounted by pressing the stone in the centre agains the washer and bring the EzyLock close to the stone, then starting the machine will, then the stone will be fixed propperly. By just lifting the stone onto the main shaft the stone will rest on the slightly conical centre and therefore the stone is resting not straight on the shaft.
Just remember that a stone which runs at this slow speed, you'll see any slighlty deviation, at higher speed it is unvisible. Here are the tolerances, up to which the wobbeling has no effect on the sharpening: radially (up and down) within +/- 0,2 mm (total 0,4 mm). The axial (sideways) tolerance (which has no influence on the sharpening result) is max +/- 0,5 mm (total 1 mm).
