Sharpening a bowl gouge
I have a bowl gouge that's 3/8" wide and about 3/16" thick. It's too thin to work with the SVD-185 jig. Is there another way to sharpen this gouge.

means in mm 9,5 and 4,8 mm? Seems more a spindel gouge?

After a little more work, I figured I could add a small block of wood to the 185 to make it work. I also remembered a way to use the SVS-50 to sharpen the gouge but I thought the 185 would give me a better shape to the gouge. I was wondering if you had a better idea?

There is some thing is odd, that should be no problem to sharpen the gouge.
Can you also send me a pic how you clamp the gouge and the setting on the machine?
I was hoping to use the 185 because I could get a finer point on the end of the gouge for closer work. It will connect with the 50 set to the P at 55mm and I‘m sure it will work well and that’s how I will set it up unless you have a better idea.

if you want a finer and pointier tip, means a smaller angel than 30 degrees? OR do yo mean a more narrow tip? For the narrow tip you can remove more material from the sides. For a smaller angel use a longer protrusion. You can measure and adjust the angel with the WM-200.
The limitation with the SVS-50 is, you have now possibility to narrow the sidesand you will get a more straight edge on the front.
I use a a slightly bigger spindle gouge with amore pointier tip and an angel with slightly less than 30 degrees. I just take more material from the side to achieve amore narrow and distinct tip to reach better in a recess when turning wind bend and snow covered spruce.
