Oblong SG-250

My SG-250 water grinding wheel is Oblong in shape. When I try to dress it with the TT-50 it hits the high spot only and wears the diamond cutter away very fast. Is there a better way to remove the high spot and then true the surface with the TT-50? Can I not save this wheel?

  • Hej Bradley

where are you based? We need to exchange the diamond tip.
The diamond cutter should not wear down very fast, they should clear ca 3 sharpening stones to grind down.
It is the only way to get the stone true again.
    please contact me on support@tormek.se

  • I am based in the westminster MD in the U.S. I have discovered that the unit I received is counterfit and was by no means your companies fault. I went and purchased a genuine diamond tip directly from your website and I have managed to FINALLY make my grindstone true. Thank you for the reply. I really wish I knew how it got 5mm out oblong in the first place though.

to get a oblong stone is completely normal, through sharpening in different angles and use of more or less pressure. Steeper angels are more aggressive to the surface. With every rotation the tool has to go "uphill" and that is more aggressive to the surface, it "diggs" more or less into thesurface."Downhill" it is less aggressive but wear the stone too. Just remember the old big sandstones from the grandparents, they are oblong too, they were round from the beginning.
So no worries, that is totally normal and not your fault ;-)

    Stay sharp!
