New Tormek T8 (june 2025): Leather whell with lateral runout

On my new Tormek T8 (june 2025), my sharpening leather wheel has a lateral wobble. (wheel is warped)... is that a concern?

  • Hi Eric,

The wheel itself should not move that much. However, considering the leather, which is a natural material, it is normal for it to move a little when it is new. This movement will decrease once you apply oil and honing compound. The leather will change shape and density, becoming more uniform.

    Regards.

  • Hi Mats,
Thank you for your quick response. I add a short video of my very new Tormek T8.
I think it is not a problem with the leather but more with the wheel itself (lateral wobble).
Tell me if you agree. Knowing that it is a very new device... Should it be possible to have an another leather wheel ? (I recorded my tormek some days ago on your Tormek site).
If you want, I can send back to you the leather wheel.
If you need more videos, I also can send them.

    Awaiting your reply

  • Hi Eric,

Thank you for the video. There is no problem with the honing wheel. The issue lies with the drive wheel, which I believe has been damaged during transportation. Any movement on the drive wheel will transfer to the honing wheel.

Please contact us at support@tormek.se, and we will help you.
