How do I sharpen a knife with a convex edge?

Good morning,
First of all thank you very much for your T4 Bushcraft which I have and thank you in oveall for your company values, products and work.
I just purchased a convex blade Fallkniven F1 Pro COS; could you give advises to shapen it because as If I understood right the Tormek is basically designed for a "linear sharpening" (and it is really great !) but maybe not so much for "round blades".
Before making my own experience (with some possible damage to my new knife) I prefer to ask the pros...so Tormek people.
Do you have a special tool or advise for such convex blades : not in "V" but "rounded V" so " a mix between a "U" and a "V" blade (this is the best way I found to describe it so we all understand).
Thank you and have a great day and a great new year,
Eric (enjoying shap knifes in France)

  • Hello Eric!

Thank you for your kind words!

You can sharpen a convex edge with the KJ-45 Centering Knife Jig (link to our french website). Here is a link to a YouTube video where Sébastien demonstrates how it's done (in french): https://youtu.be/_ZWjvKnGt98?t=1506.

It usually takes some practice to get it right and a good result, so I'd recommend you start out with a cheaper knife like the one used in the video, or somenthing similar, before trying with your precious Fällkniven.

    Hope this was helpful.

    Stay sharp!
    /Hugo and the Tormek team
