Hard inclusion in grinding wheel

I have a TORMEK 2000 fitted with a SG250 wheel. whilst using it to sharpen a fellirng axe i began to hear an audible click, then shortly after feel the axe twitch at the same time. What would you recommend as a course of action?

  • Hi Richard.
I seems like there is something stuck on the surface. If it is just that little spot I would try to remove it with something pointy, like the tip of a knife. It does not matter if you get a minor groove in the surface. A groove will not affect the tools in any way. And as the stone wears the surface will smooth out by itself. You cannot use the stone grader SP-650 to remove anything that is stuck on the surface. The stone grader will only push it further in to the stone.

If you really want to remove it without any visual defects, you should do a fine cut with the truing tool TT-50. You do not need to go more than one notch on the universal support (0,25mm 0,001"). That is enough to remove this completely. As a bonus, the wear will lessen because of no radial movement on the stone. An uneven stone will wear out much faster than a round stone.
     Good luck and stay sharp!
