Can a Tormek T-8 be operated with 110 Volts
Hello, I moved from Austria to the Dominican Republic and - of course - I tool my Tormrk T-8 with me. Now I have the problem that the power button doesn't stay in place, I mean you press it to power it on, but it does not stay pressed. You would have to press it permanently to keep the Tormek running. Which makes sharpening almost impossible unless you have three hands :-)
Can you imagine this having something to do wirh the 110 Volts used here? It worked well before the transport. Thank you very much and best regards, Franz

If you have a 230V machine you cannot use it on 110V power. Both the motor and main switch are voltage specific for 230V or 115V. The coil inside the 230V main switch will not draw on 110V. It needs at least 180-190 Volt to stay on.

thank you very much for your information. I was already afraid of what you confirmed to me. There is one more question I would like to ask you. Do you think it's a good idea to get a voltage converter? Can you recommend it?
best regards
Franz
A modern converter will work just fine. However, your machine will run a bit faster because of the 60Hz frequency. This should not be a problem, but you can get some water splash from the stone. In short term this is ok, but our tests do not say how a long-term use affects the motor and main switch.
