How do i set the Angel Master right?

Hello Tormek,

Yesterday I bought a new Tormek T8, I’m very happy about the machine. But I’m struggle with the next question. I hope I write it down so that you understand my question.

I would like your advice for a beginner. Recently I bought a T8, I want to sharpen my knives. How many degrees do I need to set with the angle adjustment. For example, I want to sharpen a Japanese knife at an angle of 15 degrees each side. How many degrees should I set 15, per side or 7.5 degrees per side with the angel master WM-200. Thanks in advance for the comments.
I’m using de jig KJ-45, my intention is to buy the new angel master.
I hope to see your answer.

greetings

First, with the new Knife Angel Setter KS-123 you choose always the halv of the desired angel. E.g. if you want an edge angel of 30 degrees yoou set 15 degrees.
With the WM-200 AngelMaster you choose also the halv of the total angel when measuring on the side of the blade, if you can measure on hte bevel itselfe (meaning the bevel is wide enough for a good measurement) the you set the full angel of the bevel.
The WM-200 AngelMaster has one flaw, to get the precise angle you have to compensate for the tapered shape of the blade, that can be something inbetween 1-4 degrees.
To repeat the excisting angle on a knife you can use the Tormek Edgemarker and use the Edgemarker methode.
In our handbook on page 54 and 55 the process of setting the angel is well discribed and illustrated.
